Welcome!
Welcome to the BU Wireless website.  We have completed the first phase of our wireless roll out.  All dorms and academic buildings on campus have been covered with signal using Cisco Aironet 1131 access points.

The second phase is currently in progress covering outdoor areas of campus and also additional indoor coverage.  You might experience some coverage holes depending on where your location is from the nearest access point.  If you have issues getting connected repeatedly in an area please inform us so we can add additional coverage.

As our top goal we are dedicated to helping you access the wireless network. If you need assistance you can contact us at wireless@binghamton.edu or call the Computer Center Helpdesk at 777-6420.

The Client Validation system that is currently present in the ResNet (Residence Halls) and public spaces will be extended to the buwireless network in order to replace the aging Bluesocket appliance. The change over will occur on January 7, 2008.

All authentication on buwireless will now be done using the PODs username/password combination.

Mac and Windows clients will be checked to confirm that up to date antivirus software is installed before connecting to the buwireless network. Additionally, Windows clients will be checked for all critical updates as well as having automatic updates set to download and install.

Wireless usage explodes!

Click here to see current usage data on the wireless network!

Currently close to half of the students(3,000+ concurrent users!) in the dorms are using wireless as their main network connection.  Data transfer on the wireless network has actually exceeded that of the wired network in the RESNET.

We're working hard to pinpoint coverage holes in the dorms to get even more students online.  Our best source of data on how the network is performing is from you, so make sure to send us any information you can on coverage holes or speed issues.
